Conservation Home Page
We are committed to the care, conservation and enhancement of the District’s rich and extremely varied historic environment. This includes:
Listed and historic buildings
Conservation Areas
Archaeology
Historic Landscapes
We offer advice on repairs to historic buildings and run a historic grant scheme.
The Council contributes to a wider initiative, called Heritage at Risk, which assesses the state of England’s designated heritage assets in order to establish their condition and identify the threats which render them at risk.
We also produce a number of publications and guidance documents, which are of use to anyone interested in, or considering development which might effect, the historic environment.
For information on nature conservation, including works to trees, please see our web pages on Policy, Landscape and Trees.
